Cable Corporation Ltd., a company within the Mehta Group, is Uganda’s first electrical cable factory.  It was started in 1968 to manufacture cables and conductors with technical collaboration from Sumitomo Heavy Industries Japan. Uganda had commissioned the Owens Falls Dam in 1958 and the electricity grid was being extended. All the cables and conductors were being imported at that time. Cable Corporation fulfilled the dual role of both being able to manufacture cables locally in Uganda while substituting imports.

From 1972 to 1980, with the Asian exodus from Uganda,  Cable Corporation Ltd was taken over by Uganda Electricity Board. Thereafter the Mehta Group regained management and the company has expanded in line with the growth in Uganda’s electricity sector.

While Cable Corporation provides electrical services, UGMA Engineering provides foundry and mechanical engineering services to several common customers. To enable a one stop solution for customers needs, UGMA Engineering Ltd was merged with Cable Corporation Ltd in 2011 and was renamed as the Engineering Division of Cable Corporation 

Since then Cable Corporation has progressed steadily. We have supported Uganda’s electrification drive and have been the local manufacturer to supply the most cables and conductors to Uganda’s utilities – namely UMEME, UEDCL and UETCL
